Diana DeMercado | Academics

Updated: Dec 12, 2023

Diana DeMercado was raised in her much-beloved Cayman Brac, where she attended Layman E. Scott Sr. High School (LSHS) and graduated with Honours. Afterwards, she pursued an Associates of Arts in Business Administration at the University College of the Cayman Islands (UCCI).

Diana was awarded a legal scholarship with Harneys and went on to attend the Truman Bodden Law School (TBLS), where she graduated in 2022 with a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) degree, obtaining First-Class Honours and acting as co-valedictorian. She is one of the first Caymanians to obtain such a prestigious classification at TBLS as of recent years. Diana then completed the Professional Practice Course at TBLS where she graduated within the top four (4) of her class with high Distinction. Diana is currently undertaking her Articles of Clerkship at Harneys in pursuit of becoming an Attorney at Law. During her legal education, Diana has taken part in a number of adversarial workshops and trainings.

Her most memorable experiences were taking part in the American Caribbean Law Initiative where she got the opportunity to work with top-ranking law schools around the United States and the Caribbean, in making legal submissions; and her time supporting the Cayman Islands Legal Assistance Clinic undertaking pro-bono work for clients.

Aside from academics, Diana is also an exceptional singer. She has won several awards at the National Children’s Festival of the Arts (NCFA) and for the Young Musician of the Year while growing up. She often volunteers to sing at local government functions. As a Proud of Them Honouree, Diana wishes to give back to her community by persistently encouraging young Caymanians to always chase their dreams, but to never forget where home is.
