Aiden Watler | Academics and Culture

Updated: Feb 24, 2022

Nineteen-year-old Aiden Watler is the living embodiment of the term: Renaissance man. Aiden is an exceptional student and cultural ambassador for the Cayman Islands. His relentless quest for knowledge began at Cayman Prep & High School, where he held the position of head boy. While at Prep, Aiden received 11 GCSE passes (eight A* and three A’s) and earned three A*s and one A in his ‘A’-level studies. On graduating from high school, Aiden won the school’s ethics award for being an outstanding contributor to the United Church in Jamaica and Cayman Islands’ ethics course.

Recipient of the DMS University Scholarship and the 2021 William A. DART Memorial Scholarship, Aiden is currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree programme with the University of California, Berkeley, majoring in mathematics. He also continues his interest in studying advanced French.

Aiden has been involved with the Cayman National Cultural Foundation (CNCF) as a regular participant in the annual comedy play, ‘Rundown’. He has also served as a volunteer at CNCF’s youth summer camps and theatrical shows, and was a cast member of Cayman’s CARIFESTA XIII entry in Barbados in 2017, performing in ‘Playground’ by local playwright Dr. Frank McField.

Outgoing and social, Aiden enjoys public speaking and is a skilled and compelling debater. This attribute earned him the position as chair of Cayman Prep’s Model United Nations club and gained him the accolades of being twice best speaker and twice best team in the local Conyers Dill & Pearman Interschool Debate tournament.

Aiden most recently represented Cayman at the 2021 World Schools Debating Championships online. In his free time, the self-taught guitarist and pianist plays at open mic nights and is a current member of his university’s ballroom team.
