Background

Thank you for your interest in nominating an outstanding young person for the Proud of Them Youth Awards!

The Ministry of Youth, Sports & Heritage seeks to publicly recognise the positive achievements of 15 young people of the Cayman Islands. Honourees will be featured on billboards established across the Cayman Islands.

Suitable young people between the ages of 10 and 25 years will be recognised in one (1) or two (2) awarding categories of Academics, Career, Business, Sports, Culture or Community Service. Nominations are encouraged from every district so that Honourees have a direct and relevant connection to young people in their community.

Additionally, two (2) Nominees identified in the 16th and 17th place total scores will be designated as “Rising Stars.”

After your review, you will be prompted to indicate that you have read all prior notices, and finally, you will complete the Proud of Them Nomination Form.

Nomination Parameters

Please ensure, when submitting your nomination, that the Nominee has met the below parameters:

  • Is Caymanian or has the Right to Be Caymanian

  • Is between the ages of 10 – 25 years old

  • Has demonstrated a high level of attainment or excellence in the Awarding Category (and the Nominee must be willing to provide additional documentation/evidence to support this)

  • Will not be nominated for more than the maximum of two (2) Awarding Categories (in Academics, Career, Business, Sports, Culture or Community Service)

Nomination Process

All members of the public are encouraged to put forward nominations for exceptional Caymanian youth.

The Nomination Process consists of these steps:

  1. Persons (i.e. Nominators) who would like to make a nomination must review all notices and then complete the online Nomination Form. This form will request the Nominator’s contact details and also contact details of their Nominee, along with a short justification of why they think this youth should be selected for the award. All nominations are due by 22nd March 2025. (Self-Nominations are permitted.)

  2. Once your Nomination Form is submitted, an automatic email is sent to the Nominee. This email lets them know they have been nominated by an anonymous community member and also asks them to submit additional documents as evidence to support their nomination. These documents are required to “complete a nomination” and must be submitted (by the youth) on/before the deadline of 22nd April 2025 at 11:59PM.

  3. Once these documents are submitted, a Selection Committee reviews the nominations and determines the 15 Proud of Them Honourees and the 2 Rising Stars. Only short-listed candidates will be contacted.

The Role of Nominators

The only requirement for Nominators (such as yourself) is to complete the Nomination Form by providing a short testimonial for the Nominee and also providing the appropriate contact details for yourself, your Nominee (or the Nominee’s Parents if under the age of 18 years old). Self-nominations are also accepted. Please note that Nominators may be contacted if the youth is short-listed (to request your participation in a video that highlights the Proud of Them Honourees.)
